My Anxiety Companion is an information resource based on the real life experiences of Mel Bonthuys, who has struggled with acute anxiety since 2001, but was only officially diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder in 2009.
She has also struggled with depression, social anxiety, and body dysmorphia.
After suffering two mental health breakdowns, and being hospitalized, Mel decided to sit down and write her memoir.
She then created this website, and followed on with another book, which became an Amazon bestseller.
The purpose is to provide anxiety sufferers with a sense of hope and encouragement and reassurance that help is available, and to provide them with resources and information into choosing the correct outlet for treatment that will work for them.
Instead of promising miracle and guaranteed cures, I openly admit that I am not a cured anxiety sufferer, just a recovered one.
This means although I have recovered from anxiety disorder, I still get faced with the challenges of anxiety, however I now know how to control those anxious feelings to prevent it from becoming ‘disordered anxiety’
I will offer you a unique view on how I recovered from anxiety disorder by accepting it, embracing it and having a humorous take on the condition.
My Anxiety Companion focuses on lending it’s voice to 'Reducing Stigma and Increasing Awareness' of all mental health conditions, particularly Anxiety Disorders.
It also aims to help everyone realize that there is Help, Hope and Treatment out there and that 'one size' doesn't fit all, and that happiness, fulfillment and a great life is possible to achieve even while in recovery!
