It is very important to understand that stress or nervousness about something in particular is very different from having an actual anxiety disorder.
People who have never experienced disordered anxiety find it hard to understand how someone can be in a constant state of angst, but that is just what it is. Think back to a time when you were nervous about something. Perhaps it was a new job or you had a personal problem that caused you to have sleepless nights and lose weight? Now imagine having about 20 different symptoms such as sleeplessness and appetite changes, feeling like this every day, week after week, month after month, and not even knowing why you are so anxious and fearful? That is what an anxiety disorder feels like! |
Anxiety is characterized by the constant feeling of nervousness and fear. Sometimes the sufferer cannot even pin point exactly what is making them nervous, but the feeling of anxiety just never leaves them. Anxiety sufferers can be perfectionists and worry about everything that happens within their lives. It is not at all usual to suffer from more than one type of anxiety.
